Vancouver West is the reason that Conde Nast Traveller and National Geographic have voted Vancouver as one of the most beautiful cities in the world! It’s impossible to be succinct when talking about this magnificent city. Do try to visit some of these spots and see for yourselves why we LOVE this city so much!
- Stanley Park is a world renowned park adjacent to downtown Vancouver. Spanning over 400 hectares, it is circled by the Seawall – a perennial favourite of Vancouverites and tourists alike. The Seawall is a 10 km paved trail which offers some of the most stunning views in Vancouver: of the downtown core, the Convention Center, the North Shore mountains, the ocean, Burrard Inlet, the bridges, seaplanes arriving and departing, historic Totem poles, a cricket pitch that is the equal of any in England… Stanley Park is also home to the 9 O’Clock Gun (a cannon that fires with a very loud report at 9 p.m. every night) and a large flotilla of yachts at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Trails through the centre of the park allow opportunities to see magnificent, tall cedars as well as Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake. Perfect place for Vancouver West photos!
- False Creek Seawall – The False Creek Seawall encircles Burrard Inlet. It’s possible to start on the seawall at Spanish Banks, close to UBC, and travel for MILES, passing beautiful beaches, Granville island, False Creek, Science World, the Downtown and connecting to the Stanley Park Seawall. The best part is that you will be right by the ocean for the whole duration!
- Kitsilano Beach, Locarno Beach, Jericho Beach, Spanish Banks – these beautiful beaches attract people from across the Lower Mainland on warm sunny days. Volleyball, sun tanning, outdoor swimming pools and a variety of cafes, coffee shops and fine dining may be readily found nearby.
- Van Dusen Botanical Gardens are a 55 acre paradise in the heart of Vancouver with over 7,500 plant species. The landscaping here is eye wateringly beautiful – plan to spend several hours here! There is an admission fee. Shaughnessy Restaurant at the garden offers a very special dining experience.
- Queen Elizabeth Park is a favourite for wedding photos. You will understand why the moment you arrive! Situated on top of a hilltop, the Park offers stunning gardens, views of the city and the mountains and lovely walking trails. Sprinklers Restaurant in the park offers fine dining with a view! Also in the park is the Bloedel Conservatory, home to many rare tropical birds and foliage that will enhance all of your Vancouver West images.
- Pacific Spirit Park – is a 874 hectare wilderness park adjacent to the University of British Columbia. Many trails through the park provide for off-leash dog walks, hiking or trail biking.
- University of British Columbia (UBC). UBC is known for its tranquil and beautiful campus, full of beautiful gardens, greenways and historic old buildings. The Nitobe Memorial Gardens are beautiful, traditional Japanese gardens and well worth a visit here. For the more adventurous, the world-famous Wreck Beach offers a nudist Mecca and its own special ambiance.
- Vanier Park is located by the Burrard Street bridge, on the south side of Burrard Inlet. It is home to the Vancouver Planetarium and the Vancouver Space Center (come stargaze through their large telescope!). It’s also one of the best places in the city to view the summer fireworks displays or to enjoy the sunset.
- English Bay Beach deserves special mention in a city full of magnificent beaches! Located at the foot of Davie Street in Vancouver’s West End, this beach offers the best place to watch the sunset – bar none. Water slides, proximity to fine dining, kayak rentals and so much more are available here.
